Employability micro-credentials for Australian Technology Network

The Australian Technology Network (ATN) is a group of six universities with a shared mission that includes producing job ready graduates. In 2021, Curio successfully designed and delivered a collaboratively career-focused course comprising three micro-credentials to each of the six institutions. “Designing your Future” commenced as a collaboration with Stanford University and Curio successfully designed and developed an online opportunity available to thousands of students.

Curio learning designers, consulting with a group of subject matter experts from across the ATN network and Stanford, produced a shared curriculum blueprint and detailed storyboards for each topic in a series of life design modules.

The Curio digital team brought the course to life with course assets including video, branded templates and integrated tools. Curio guided the stakeholders and its members on online learning pedagogy through a curriculum steering group, and digital and technical solutions through leading a technology steering group. The outcome is a highly regarded series of online, professionally designed and developed and available across a range of LMS.

Students learn a range of techniques to assess and develop their goals and strengths including goal setting, creating a personal career road map and understanding how to build a digital presence. Many of these are interactive elements, as well as watching live examples of others completing similar tasks. Students complete skills assessments, try their hand at drawing models, and upload content for a variety of peer and machine feedback from experts that help gauge their confidence in applying these theories to themselves.

Notable, this course has an emphasis on positive mindset and development, so tasks designed to encourage resilience in an engaging way were prominent. These included thinking and reflecting tasks, mindfulness, as well as conducting an audit of motivations, attitudes, and emotions while in the online experience, and journaling these.

Tom Whitford is an experienced educator, academic, learning designer, strategist, and has worked with leading UK and Australian universities. His research interests span innovative approaches to online teaching and learning, instruction and pedagogy, and effective learning design. This research has been featured at conferences of local and international significance. He provides feedback and reviews a variety of global academic publications and trade journals. Re-designing law courses for online learning in collaboration with subject matter experts

As a partner with one of Australasia’s leading universities, we are consistently providing our expert services to create excellent learning experiences for students to gain industry-specific knowledge and practical skills. We collaborated with this institution to combat their problem of insufficient availability of academic and learning design resource to support and translate the common discursive experience of a law course into an asynchronous online course.

Embedding the personalities of educators and an effective social learning model into an online course

Curio partnered with a Group of 8 university, who were moving their hugely successful foundations course in Cyber Security to the online environment. The academic leads had effectively embedded a social learning model where students co-created and shared a “class textbook”, security tips and case studies that built upon content covered in lectures and readings. They sought a partner who could embed the enigmatic personalities of their academic leads and effective social learning model into the new delivery mode to reach their students across the globe.

The University of Sydney has seen incredible results from the International Arrivals Program since its launch. Kids First Stand Up! program

Kids First is an independent child and family services provider and early education specialist. Their vision is for all children and young people to thrive in resilient, strong and safe families and communities. Stand Up! is a face-to-face, facilitated experience for students over four sessions. The program is so popular it was difficult to further Kids First Stand Up! program

A fully customised and robust Canvas template for Auckland University of Technology

Curio worked closely with the AUT Learning Transformation LAB (altLab) to design a robust, user-friendly Canvas template to roll out during the LMS migration to improve the user experience. 
Together, we developed a detailed brief of requirements for the template and identified common elements that would be used across faculties and departments. The aim of the template was to provide a consistent look and feel across all courses with sufficient flexibility to cater for the wide range of courses offered by AUT. 

A strategy to grow educational offerings into international markets for APA

APA is Australia’s professional physiotherapists’ peak membership body and delivers a large portfolio of education and CPD to physiotherapists, including online products. APA sought to explore the opportunity to expand its education offerings to international physiotherapists to increase revenue to reinvest in member value in Australia. An online transformation for RMIT’s MBA programs

RMIT’s College of Business and Law wished to update their offerings in response to whole-of-university changes to blended learning. The College of Business and Law approached Curio with the challenge: “How should we change our MBA to embrace blended learning opportunities?”. 

A user-friendly CMS for The Institute of Positive Education

The Institute of Positive Education is an initiative by Geelong Grammar School aimed at improving student wellbeing. Curio Digital worked with the Institute to co-design the Positive Education Enhanced Curriculum (PEEC) portal. PEEC is a research-based explicit Positive Education curriculum that has been developmentally sequenced from Early Learning (age four) through to Year 12.
